Nez Long Addresses Claims of Forcing KMP Musicians to Release Political Songs

Kalandanya Music Promotions (KMP) has dismissed claims that it has forced its musicians to release political songs ahead of the Zambian general election set for August 2021.
According to KMP CEO Nez Long, all their artists releasing political songs are doing so under their own volition.

Nez Long made the remark after a fan asked him if it is true that KMP was in the armpits of Patriotic Front (PF) party.
“Is it true that Kalandanya music promotions is for PF cadres?” one Wellingtone Wekwesa asked.
In his response, Nez Long rubbished this rumour saying that KMP is solely in the music of business and is not in any way involved in politics.

“KMP is an entertainment establishment set up to promote Zambian music. All artistes under the label who did the campaign music were given an option to do it or not to,” he responded.
This comes days after Macky 2 and RnB Queen Mampi released a new song ‘Aleteka Nakambi’.
The song was produced by KMP’s in-house producer Mr Stash who previously worked for XYZ Entertainment.
‘Aleteka Nakambi’ elicited sharp reactions from fans, many commending the duo while others simply said that they understand all this is a business and nothing serious.
Earlier, Macky 2 had said that music is a business, therefore, artistes should go ahead and do their thing.
“We have elections so that people choose who they want. You can't force people. After all, those who will live in peace must agree to disagree in many things with others, and will not let differences divide or disunite them,” he stated.
“Don't politicise the entertainment industry.. Ifwe ni business fye, if you pay it will show. Just tell your party leaders to also hire artists to sing for them” he wrote on his Facebook page.
