Celebrated Tanzanian musicians Alikiba and Diamond Platnumz have been hailed for being instrumental in popularizing the bongo music genre in Kenya.

The two were appreciated during the Kenya-Tanzania business conference held in Nairobi. The conference was part of the state visit by Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu to Kenya.

The forum was meant to explore potential areas of collaboration between the two countries and the creative sector was singled out as a critical driver for partnership.

The Kenyan representative addressing the conference noted that the use of Swahili by the two musicians has acted as a key unifying factor for both countries.

The speaker said bongo music has grown in Kenya, and two musicians deserve the much-needed credit for popularizing the genre in Kenya.

“Creative industry has witnessed remarkable growth in both countries fuelled by the commonality of Swahili language. The meteoric rise of bongo music flavor especially among urban youth in both Kenya and Tanzania is notable...key Tanzanian artists like Alikiba and Diamond Platnumz have reaped it big from Kenyans through concerts,” she said.

Similarly, the representative noted that Kenyan boy band Sauti Sol has also been instrumental in spreading the Kenyan creative scene in Tanzania.

The forum brought together business leaders from Kenya and Tanzania with an aim of exploring potential areas of partnership.
