Professor Jay Blasts Old School Musicians for not Adapting to New Music Trends

Legendary Tanzanian rapper Prof. Jay has hit out at old-school bongo musicians for not adapting to changing times. In a recent interview, Jay noted that despite being talented, the musicians of the past should realize that the industry has changed, and to stay afloat, there is need to work towards meeting current market demands.

The former lawmaker challenged musicians to start by engaging new school producers to catch up. He noted that they should put their ego aside and learn to listen to new ideas.

“Wasanii wenzangu wakongwe, wanashida moja, hawataki kubadilika. Watu hawataki kukubali masaa ina badilika. Msanii lazima ukuwe versatile...Lazima tukimbizane na kasi ya saa hii ya mtandao,” said Prof Jay.

At the same time, Jay also hit out at new school musicians for lowering the quality of music by engaging in unnecessary sideshows that aim to attract attention. The rapper said he is making a comeback in the music industry as means of guiding young musicians.

According to Jay, the bongo music scene is unstable. Jay said he had received more inspiration after the late Tanzanian President John Magufuli endorsed one of his songs.

At the moment, Prof Jay is flying high with his latest single dubbed ‘Utaniambia Nini’.
