In the hearts and minds of Rwandans, April 7 is a day that evokes sad memories but it is also a day that shows how strong they are; it is the Rwandan genocide memorial day.

The memorial has a special place in the hearts of Rwandans and The Ben is every year, at the center of it all as his commemoration song “I Can See” lingers in the minds of his people.

The Ben who is based in the US sang the song as a way to honour the memories and lives of 800,000 Rwandan Genocide victims who paid the ultimate price of disunity and tribal animosity pitting the Tutsi against the Hutu people.

It started on April 7 and ended on July 3; many homes left with no one, just sad reminders of what was happening back then.

‘I Can See’ is a powerful song which reminds people of the power of unity and is a beacon of hope to fight evil forces that could take back the country to the dark times.

When he released the song six years ago, The Ben said that “I Can See” will also help us focus on what will advance the collective good of Rwandans.”

“I Can See” showcases the power of forgiveness, positivity and resilience too for Rwandans. It is the “Genocide anthem” that no one can wish away.
