The Tanzania art regulatory body Baraza la Sanaa la Taifa (BASATA) is known to be strict when it comes to the implementation of ethics in the industry. Bongo musicians have landed in trouble for violating various policies. For instance, some musicians have come under fire for releasing songs deemed dirty. This article looks at bongo songs that have been on the bad side of BASATA regulations:

Uzuri Wako - Jux
The song was banned in 2018 for containing lyrics which violate ethics of regulations of broadcasting services. Basata also claimed that it had an explicit video that was not appropriate for consumption.
Mwanza - Rayvanny ft Diamond
Not only was the song banned from airplay, but Diamond was also prohibited from performing it on stage. According to Basata the song Mwanza contains the Swahili word for ‘horny’, and dancers are seen in a video simulating adult stuff.

Waka - Diamond ft Rick Ross
This was one of the biggest songs across the region as Diamond made a cross over to the American market. According to the authorities, the song which had been playing on different media platforms contains illicit content which violates Tanzania’s code of conduct.

Pale Kati Patam - Ney wa Mitego
The song attracted scrutiny from the title alone. Tanzanian regulators classified the song as explicit with lyrics referred to sexual activity.
Nampa Papa - Gigy Money
The emergence of Gigy Money on this list does not come as a surprise. The singer has had run-ins with Tanzanian authorities for controversial performances alongside explicit lyrics. This song was banned as Gigy insinuated how she will perform sexual activities with a man.
