Deborah Ikirezi, a Canadian-based Rwandan singer has spoken of her love for music. Ikirezi, now 25, has followed in the footsteps of her father Masamba Intore, an icon in Gakondo music.

In a recent interview with The New Times, she said that she is currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in social works. She says that she inherited her musical genes from her family.

“I come from a family of musicians, both sides. My mum is actually a dancer…My father is a musician, and we both inherited music. My father inherited it from his father, and his father got it from his father and I guess it’s in the bloodline,” she said.

Ikirezi launched her career in 2018 and established her genres in RnB and Afro-Soul. Her music is a sharp contrast to that of her father who did Gakondo music in Kinyarwanda.

“I feel more comfortable doing my music in English because of the style of music that I grew up listening to,” she said.
