Ghanaian Reggae singer, songwriter and record producer Rocky Dawuni, says that he does not believe in nominations as a way to judge the musician’s accomplishments.
He says that the validity of his music career cannot be done away with just by him not having received any nominations or awards. According to him, being a great artiste cannot be measured by number of awards one receives.
Rocky Dawuni encouraged the Ghanaian musicians to keep on working hard and to push their God-given talent even when they do not get the immediate feedback expected.
Talking about how he felt after being nominated for the Grammy’s, in an interview with Y 107.9FM, s Kojo Manuel on the YDiscodiaries Rocky Dawuni said, “Nobody can prepare you for great news”.
“When I was nominated for the Grammy’s, I felt Ghana had arrived. It was then that I could actually step out and say, this is actually big because in the history of Grammy’s I was the second African to have ever been nominated in that category” He explained marking this as a historic achievement for him.
“I feel the nominations sometimes become a scheme of corrupt enterprise where people can be influenced and influence others”. Rocky said this even after his excitement towards the nomination.
