What You Need to Know About Late Zimbabwean Hip-hop Star Cal Vin

Born in 1984, Cal Vin alias ‘That Luveve Boy’ would grow up to make an outstanding persona of himself as a hip hop/rapper based in Bulwayo, Zimbabwe.
Sadly, Mgcini Calvin Nhliziyo – his real name – is said to have been involved in a hit and run accident on Saturday night.
He was a few meters from his house when the accident occurred. Family members say he had been with his friends watching a Liverpool match with Sheffield United at Emakhandeni Cricket Club in Luveve which made him get back home late.
On Monday, friends and relatives trooped in sending tributes to the late artiste.
He grew up in Luveve where he would make a life for himself from music. In past interviews, he said that he was inspired by Zimbabwe’s legendary maestro, Oliver Mtukidzi and the likes of Michael Jackson, Tupac and Jay Z.
He first recorded a song in 2003 and made his first beat in 2004 from which he became a renowned rapper who has sought after for making lyrical RnB, Hip Hop and Afro Pop beats. ‘Bebengakholwa’ was his biggest song which he released in 2014.
He would later release “Perfect Balance” album which took Zimbabwe’s airwaves by storm.
‘Bebengakholwa’ won him the award of ‘Song of the Month’ thrice and was one of the longest topping song on the Heart Beat National Chart.
For a record 10 weeks, it stayed put on the charts.
