OPINION: How to maintain a good relationship with your fans
28 October 2013
As a musician the most important entity of your growth and development as an artist, are a group of ‘crazy’ determined people who are there on your every beck and call and are always updated on every single detail about your life, to some point that it may get crazy, but come rain or sunshine they will always be there and have your back, and this are your Fans.
They want nothing more but to support you, spread the word and be there with you as you grow. Unfortunately when you do, they hate the fact that the dynamic of your relationship with them has also changed. Therefore as an artist, it is your job to help keep them excited about the change, to help them see that change is actually good, and that they are responsible for it all.
So how do we make sure that this good relationship is maintained?
As I have stated before we are lucky to be existing in an era where we have various social media platforms to promote our work and at the same time build relationships with fans, so use this gift well, talk to your fans and most importantly be honest with them fans appreciate honesty they want to know that they can trust in you to always keep them updated on what is happening.
Another way to maintain good relationship is by doing new things; be versatile and keep updating and upgrading yourself. Fans get tired of the same old material they have been hearing from you over the years so the more you upgrade the better your relationship will be with your fans. Don’t get me wrong there are some diehard fans that stick with you, but just keep fans excited by producing new material.Do something out of the ordinary, something that isn’t predictable and that will definitely knock your fans off their socks.
Another key factor is a simple thing such as basically thanking them; fans want nothing more than to feel they are appreciated and acknowledge by their favourite artist ;so cut them some slack and do this as often as possible ,be it through videos, blog posts, social media updates let them know that you love and appreciate them.
