Eddy Kenzo is currently one of the best and highest ranked musicians in Uganda thanks to his consistency and high quality productions.

Kenzo is the first Ugandan and the only East African to bag a BET Award, making him a force to reckon with in the international music scene.

Despite being an exemplary artiste, music was not his first career as he was a footballer before venturing into music.

In a recent interview, Kenzo noted that he used to play football before, but due to challenges regarding is age, he was unable to play in top leagues, thus opting to settle on his other strength which was in music.

Addressing his switch from football to music, Kenzo noted that the transition was smooth since he had previously sang in a school choir.

"I think I was born to do this because I grew up thinking I would be a football star. I loved soccer so much but in between there, education disturbed me a little yet I could not play in the professional leagues because I was very young,” he said.

His first song was dubbed ‘Jangu Tuteese', but his big breakthrough came when he was 16 years and did a song titled 'Yanimba' featuring Sulubada's Mikkie Wine.

Explaining how he managed to get Mikkie to feature on the jam, Eddy Kenzo said he developed friendships with people close to Bobi Wine and luckily got connected to Mikkie Wine.

They, however, had a misunderstanding later on forcing Eddy Kenzo to quit Firebase in the beginning of 2010. Ever since, Eddy Kenzo embarked on a solo career.
