Reigning Uganda Musicians Association (UMA) president Ykee Benda has spoken out on the funds reportedly coming from the government, meant to cushion artistes during this crisis time that has left most of them jobless.
Speaking during an interview, Ykee Benda said he is aware of the funds, adding that they have, however, not received any money, or an invite to go get the said cash.
He assured artistes that if the said money is distributed through the association, the UMA leadership will have a meeting and deliberate on the modalities.

"I know and I've heard about that money but it has not yet come through. But I think if it goes through UMA, we shall have the meeting to talk about it,"he said adding that the association needs to receive detailed information including exact date of disbursement before sharing the same with its members.
The communication about the said money was made by Hon. Nakiwala Kiyinji who told the press that the government had set aside some cash to cushion artistes from effects of COVID-19.
According to National Cultural Forum, they wrote a petition and asked for Ugx 10 billion for the stimulus fund.
Reports indicate that artistes are to borrow the money, use it during these tough times then refund it back when things go back to normal, but with no interest.
