Standstill in Kigoma as Alikiba Arrives for First Show in 10 Years

Bongo star Alikiba on Wednesday evening caused a stir in his hometown of Kigoma ahead of his Friday concert.
Alikiba who will be performing in the area for the first time in ten years was welcomed by thousands of fans who wanted to catch a glimpse of him.
Videos circulating online show fans lining up along the road chasing after his vehicle while chanting his name.
The singer’s motorcade was escorted by dozens of motorbikes leading the way with a heavy security presence.
“Amekuja ndugu yetu Kiba, tumetegea kwa muda mrefu, namwambia Kigoma hapa ni kwetu aje kututumbuiza," said a fan.

Alikiba will be performing at the concert along other bongo stars like Billnas and Marioo.
The concert was postponed for two weeks following the death of former President Benjamin Mkapa.
The postponement was meant to give room for mourning. Kiba now joins a growing list of Tanzanian musicians who have resumed holding concerts after the coronavirus pandemic.
The government had banned concerts as a means of curbing the spread of the deadly virus. He joins the likes of Harmonize, Nandy and Zuchu in holding shows post coronavirus pandemic.
