Mesach Semakula Vows to Defy New Rules Governing Arts Industry

Renowned Ugandan music group Golden Band’s leader Mesach Semakula has vowed to defy new laws passed by the government in a bid to regulate the arts industry.

Being one of the legendary artistes in the industry, the Golden Band leader has asked fellow artistes to join him and rebel against the new rules, until the government engages them and explains the rationale behind the new laws.

"We do not want to be rebellious because guidelines are supposed to be in place but we want them to be enforced when they are real not because they have their own intentions. These laws are unnecessary for us and the way they brought them to us, is not the right way because we think we as stakeholders are supposed to be among the team that makes them,” he said.

Semakula revealed that he together with other artistes will be opening up a case through their lawyers to petition Parliament to revise the laws.

 "We have to know that they have come in the right way. I'm one of the people that strongly oppose these laws until when they bring them in a way that helps the industry," he divulged.

According to him, the laws are not helpful in any way as they do not help in improving the farewell of artistes.
