ARTIST OF THE DAY: Dexterous singer, Size 8

What she lacks in size, she makes up for in her immense talent and creativity in music! Meet singer/song writer, Size 8.

Born Linet Munyali, she grew up in a humble background where she learned how to fend for herself and through the adventures of school, she discovered her talent in drama and arts.

Later along the way after school she auditioned for the Tusker Project Fame singing competitions where she was then discovered by Kenyan Producer, Clemo. She might have not gotten onto the band wagon of fame, through the Project Fame competitions but she fell onto a different path that propelled her to even greater heights.

Under the wings of Clemo, she recorded her first song, “Size 8” which actually is the nucleus of where her stage name. She followed with several other songs, “Shamba Boy” ,”Vidonge” which made her bigger and better every time. In turn she recorded her first full album with the same recording label.

But unlike most stories of fame and fortune? She was calm on the outside, but burning on the inside with little peace of mind and uncertainty of herrole as a secular singer. Things took an astronomical turn in the month of April, 2013 when she decided  to get saved and switch her career towards gospel inspired music.

People were in complete dismay terming her change of heart as a celebrity stunt but the other half of the crowd acted equally positive saying she has done a noble thing. A habitual response if you ask me? Kenyans and humans at large will react to any action concerning the big cheese.

Before even the raging waves of reactions could settle she released her first gospel single, “Mateke” which was a sort of window to what she was going through before as they say, “Seeing the light”. The song had quite an impressive reception in both music worlds which despite being  a personal decision solidified her hold in the gospel fraternity.

Being a celebrity and all, her love life is no private matter; a deal one agrees to once in the lime light. Grass grew and she fell in helplessly in love with fellow gospel artist and DJ, DJ Mo. Time flies they say, glad it never fails to remind us. After their engagement we were reminded of their merging by wedding bells.

But that didn’t stop her from doing what she truly is best at- singing! She followed up with more awe inspiring songs and  recently did a collaborative track with “Sitolia” hit maker, Willy Paul. The track was dubbed, “Tam Tam” in which the young Willy Paul looks for relationship advice from someone well versed in the field, in this case Mrs. Mo a.k.a Size 8.

The song proved to be a real hit gathering more and more views on Youtube by the day. Two power houses just merged on one single- what did you expect anyway?

The born again singer proved that there’s always a brighter day after every dark night. Size 8 is undoubtedly one of Kenya’s most accomplished singer and I personally can’t wait to hear what more she has in store for us.
