United Kingdom’s broadcaster BBC has recognized Diamond Platnumz after he became the first African musician to hit one billion views on YouTube.

Through a detailed article, a BBC commentator pointed out that the fete should not come as a surprise thanks to Diamond’s work ethic and dedication.

"Diamond Platnumz is very hard working and has great showmanship," said DJ Edu, who hosts the weekly pan-African music show ‘This Is Africa’ for the BBC World Service.

According to BBC, Diamond has worked hard to popularize the Bongo Flavour music across the globe in a unique manner.

The article noted that the growing popularity is thanks to the romantic melodies with an urban beat influenced by traditional Taarab music from Tanzania.

To date, Diamond has amassed over 1.04 billion views with about 3.7 million subscribers on YouTube.

Diamond beat other top names like P Square (810 million views), Davido ( 618 million views), Flavour (617 million views), Tekno (574 million views), Burna Boy (507 million views) and Wizkid (480 million views).

According to Diamond, his success is mainly due to his consistency, dedication and the right team at Wasafi Classic.

A quick spot check on Diamond’s YouTube channel revealed that the Wasafi founder is very consistent, and rarely goes for three weeks without posting a new video.
