Drake has been creating an online stir since the release of his single ‘Toosie Slide’. Critics called it a commercial ploy and it sure garnered commercial success as it went on to be number one. He over the weekend backed the single with a full project, a mixtape ‘Dark Lane Demo Tapes’.
Drake has been loved for his experimental element with music and providing sad-nigga hour anthems. This mixtape is no different. Drake explores relationships; in how they have or have not worked in that rap/sung style of his. This is also relationships all around him; his parents, his son, his baby mama and romantic relationships.
‘Dark Lane Demo Tapes’ is built on a ruffish hip-hop style which is a fusion of Chicago and London hi-hop; Drake had mentioned that he had been looking into the London style of hip-hop before this project. It takes a little away from the softness that is associated with Drake’s music.
He has two singles off the project; ‘Toosie Slide’ and ‘War’. Despite ‘Toosie Slide’ being a very commercial single, Drake strikes the balance between this and non-mainstream singles on this project.
This mixtape has included a couple of hip-hop finest rappers; Young Thug, Chris Brown, Future. Giveon, Playboi Carti, Fivio Foreign and Sosa Geek.
Spice up your sad nigga hours with this new Drake project ‘Dark Lane Demo Tapes’.
