Who is Ycee?
Oludemilade Martin Alejo famous and popularly going by YCEE(Cung Yarter & Zaheer; on his social media pages) is a hip hop artist, Rapper and Songwriter and a stage performer from Nigeria's capital, Lagos.
Born on the 29th of January 1993 to an Igbo mother and Yoruba father, Ycee spent his early years in Festac Town, Lagos. His childhood dream was to become a professional footballer.
Ycee attended Dr. Soyemi Memorial Nursery and Primary school, and later The Nigerian Navy Secondary School in Ojo where He attained his West African Senior School Certificate. Ycee studied his undergraduate studies at The University of Lagos(UNILAG) to Pursue a Bachelor's Degree in Marine Biology.
Music Career
Ycee has been in the music industry since early 2012. Starting off as an Underground rapper, Ycee got signed to Tinny Entertainment at age 17 and at this point, he went silent to complete his University Education.
in December 2012, Ycee unleashed his debut official single "Smile On Me" which was produced by Jay Sleek followed up by its video in January 2013.
He released more singles in 2013 namely "Pass Me" and "Amen" featuring Mbryo.
2015 was an incredible year for Ycee. Until May is when Ycee released his hit song dabbed "Condo" where He featured Patoraking and its video was shot by Clarence Peters. The song received massive massive support airplay and this got him being nominated at The Nigeria Music Entertainment Awards 2015 in 2 categories. 'Best Collaboration of The Year and 'Best Music Video Of The Year'.
Two Months Later, 20th July, Ycee released another hit single "Jagaban" which heightened his popularity and Relevance in the Nigerian music scene, to the point where Olamide asked to be featured on the song's remix.
He got nominated for "Revelation of the year" at the 2015 edition of MTV Africa Music Awards and also got a nomination in the "Pop Category" at the 2015 All Africa Music Awards.
Ycee closed the year 2015 as the most sought after Nigerian artiste with His release of 'omo alhaji'.
With the influence of hot releases in end 2015 and the beginning of 2016, Ycee bagged endorsement deals from Samsson Group(Telco) and Kui Care(Natural Hair Care products Company).
Tinny Entertainment signed a record distribution deal with Sony Music on October 21, 2016. This was in the hope that SONY AFRICA would take their music to the next level which would come to an end in a letter dated 5 December 2017.
His first Debut studio EP under SONY Music was released in 2017. "The First Wave" contained his Hits, Jagaban, Link Up, Juice, Say Bye-Bye, Panda Cover and Smile on Me, among the few.
Ycee finally left the label that brought him into limelight Tinny Entertainment on January 15, 2019, to start his own ANBT(Ain’t Nobody Badder Than) Company.
As an excellent Yoruba Speaker Ycee additionally raps in English and Pidgin. YCee has also expressed interest in art and fashion as depicted on his Instagram postings.
