Mafikizolo are now traversing their third decade as artists and more importantly, still singing and performing together. They have now sealed this in their new single ‘Ngeke Balunge’.
The single, loosely translated into English is about a great love that has stood and continues to stand the test of time. They really are talking about the far they have come as a group from the 90s to where they are now, still as a group.
The song has a relatively slow but deeply groovy vibe to it; it in a sense draws a lot of similarity to their single ‘Emlanjeni’ that they released right after they lost one of the group members. ‘Ngeke Balunge’ in its instrumentation gives a deeper meaning to the well written lyrics and the arrangement of the vocal progression just adds the intensity.
The video is well colourful as are most Mafikizolo videos. The duo are both in well-tailored gowns for Nhlanhla and suits for Theo. It takes the direction of a traditional ceremony where Theo is meeting Nhlanhla’s people and this works well to translate the lyrics of the song.
Well, I bet there is a new song for the weddings now courtesy of Mafikizolo’s Ngeke Balunge.
