Meet Olenkodikod hitmaker, the first Maasai doing techno music
2 October 2013
Even though in Kenya techno house music has quite not yet picked up or is not that popular, there is a lot of promising talents. One in particular is Gospel artists Diddi Kimer.
Being in the industry for close to six years without doing much, the artist describes his musical journey as one with challenges due to lack of resources.
“As a Maasai it was really hard getting a recording studio in my home town, even the simplest one. Luckily I met Alex in 2012 who is now my manager and he introduced me to Talanta Crew who linked me up to Prince Cam. There I did my debut song Olenkodikod,” he tells Mdundo.
The song is more of techno with a catchy hook and phenomenal video which showcases the rich Maasai culture.
“Olenkodikod in Maasai means rolling. What I was trying to say in the song is that if you play around with your life the devil will creep in and leave you rolling on the ground,” Diddi added.
He says his genre of music is ‘equatorial house’ and he is about to pave way for a new sound and genre in the Kenyan music scene.
“I want to do positive music and also something unique. South Africans have their own tune known as Kwaito. Equatorial house is the Kenyan version of Techno,” Diddi adds.
The artist is set to release another hit ‘Osirwa’ next month.
