What comes to mind when you first hear of Saba Saba? The official celebration and commemoration of World Kiswahili Day or the Kenyan Saba Saba?

Well incase you didn’t know Saba Saba Day is also a national holiday in Tanzania celebrated on every July 7th. The holiday commemorates an important date in Tanzania's journey to statehood in 1954 and is also known as Dar es Salaam International Trade Fair Day. In Swahili Saba Saba directly translates to the number seven seven. This was a significant day in the nation's history because it marked the founding of the Tanganyika African National Union (TANU) on July 7, 1954.

In 1964, when Tanganyika and Zanzibar united to form the United Republic of Tanzania, TANU would go on to play a significant part in the country's independence process. Today, Saba Saba in Tanzania is celebrated annually as the Dar es Salaam International Trade Fair day which is an event that aims to establish global business partnership through organising and managing international and specialised trade fairs.

The event brings together local and foreign traders to showcase a variety of commodities under different industrial categories such as Agriculture, Automobile, Construction, Machinery, Textiles among others.
