UGANDA: Intriguing One on One With The Stunning Make Up Artist Peter Russell
9 September 2016
Peter Russell a very talented and young makeup artist with the creative freedom to express himself without any boundaries because he believes his job requires him to look impeccably good all the time.

He has become one of the town’s most sought face beat pros.
He pursued a degree in Industrial Art, and majored in painting, textile design and ceramics.
As Mdundo we were privileged to have a very interesting conversation with charming Russell.
Mdundo: Good Evening Peter, so we basically know you for being a good makeup artist one of the best. What else do you do besides make up, styling, modeling?
Russell: Just got done with school so I am basically focusing on makeup now.I am not a stylist or a model I just happen to have a touch of fashion in me but it would actually be option if I wasn't doing makeup.
Mdundo: What inspired you to do make up and when did you decide it is something you wanted to take on professionally?
Russell: I started makeup around 2014 August so basically 2years and counting.
I decided I wanted to do this because my background is basically an art background and I have done art through school and campus as well and while at I campus I decided I wanted to do makeup because it was one of the things I knew I'd do well and learn easily as time went on
Mdundo: How is the makeup industry like in Uganda is it stressing or fun and is it something you would want to carry on for a long time or do you have an escape plan?
Peter Russell: Makeup is my life that's basically who I am so I ain't ditching it for anything maybe yes I'll expand as the years pass by. And every industry has difficulties so does the makeup industry but I ain't trading the good times for the bad... It's been rough but Ugandans are catching up.

Mdundo: Which big artists have you worked with? What is the experience with them like? And what are some of your achievements as one of Uganda's biggest makeup artists?
Russell: I've worked on various artists Juliana Kanyomozi, Desire Luzinda, Flavia Tumusiime, Lilian Mbabazi, Irene Namubiru, Irene Ntale, Rena Nalumansi, Angela Katatumba, Jackie O, Judith Heard, the Mafiki Zolo from South Africa to mention but a few.

I've achieved a lot but the greatest achievement is my customer base...nothing beats that
Mdundo: So how do you get you clients or how do they get to you? Do you have a particular location?
Russell: Social media has played a big role it is say the biggest source of my clients then my clients themselves also recommend me a lot. Am freelance as of now because of school but not for long so am basically just a phone call away but as of now I work around town at a friend’s store at Prime complex urban styles

Mdundo: Do you have any make up advice that you would give to people especially artists in Uganda? (You know Mdundo is about music and artists so we find ways of making music and artists better by getting in touch with people that make this happen people like you that make these musicians look especially beautiful in their music videos and concerts).
Russell: The world is developing really fast and investment is always important for better feedback. A better artist is made of many elements and a makeup artist is vital...I propose artists should get in touch with the various makeup artists around town for a better image, a better image is a better career.
The work by his hands is like magic.
