Wyre aiming for Grammys this year!

The Kenyan music scene is most certainly on an upward scale with 2 different artists nominated for international prestigious awards this year, and various collaborations amongst artists across the region so for sure this will be a great year for the entertainment scene.

In an interview with Citizen TV’s Lillian Muli, reggae dance-hall star Wyre who is a nominee for the World Music Awards revealed his plans for the future saying that East African music industry needs to grow to international level,

“I really wanna put East Africa on the international map. I want to see East African artists headlining international reggae music festivals and I want to wave the Kenyan flag high out there. I wanna see if I can go for a Grammy nomination,” he said

Wyre who started out his career with the group Necessary noise back in 2000 together with Nazizi Harji focusing mainly on socially conscious lyrics however they split up to grow their solo careers and so far everything has been looking up for Wyre.

He has done several collaborations with some of the top raggae dance-hall artists most recently collaborating with Jamaica’s songstress Alaine in their hit single “Nakupenda pia” that became a massive hit locally and internationally and his latest release 'No More' is fast gaining ground as a local favourite recieving massive airplay across all radio stations.

Last month, Wyre got three nominations in the prestigious World Music Awards where he will be battling out with big international artists like Jay Z and 50 cent and you can vote for him by following this link http://www.worldmusicawards.com/
