UGANDA:Throw Back Featuring Afrigo Band.

The Afrigo Band, is the longest-lasting musical group in the history of Uganda, having existed for 41 years
The band was formed by a group of eight musicians led by their band leader, vocalist and alto saxohonist Moses Matovu, who continued to lead the band on its 38th anniversary. Playing to their fans at home in Uganda, the group tours regularly in Europe and the United States to play to Ugandans in the Diaspora. Some of the famous members of the band are Herman Ssewanyana , Charles Ssekyanzi Mutagubya, Racheal Magoola , Joanita Kawalya.

In January 2015, Afrigo Band began regular performances at Club Silk, in Kampala's Industrial area, every Friday evening. Although the club attracts a predominantly young audience, with the arrival of Afrigo, Club Silk is expected to ring in more mature revelers, above the age of 40 years.
They have announced that they will hold a ball on1st October at the Kampala Serena Hotel’s Victoria Hall. The concert named the Royal Ball will have the Kabaka of Buganda, Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II as chief guest.

The ball is being held to commemorate the Kabaka’s royal recognition of Afrigo band. This recognition was made by the Kabaka at his 61st birthday celebrations. At this event, the Kabaka lauded Moses Matovu for his contribution to the preservation of culture and the band for entertaining the nation and the region since 1975.

“It is such an honor to be recognized by the Kabaka and Afrigo will hold a concert this year to celebrate it. We have extended an invitation to His Royal Highness and we will be honored to have him grace this special concert. Tickets will be sold for UGX100, 000 and tables will go for UGX1 million,” Matovu added.
Uganda Breweries Limited (UBL) will be the lead sponsors of this glorious event. “This year UBL celebrates its 70-year anniversary. This is a huge milestone for us and we would like to celebrate with Uganda’s longest serving and best musical talent, Afrigo band,” said Rhona Namanya, Brand Manager, Uganda Waragi.

And on independence day Afrigo Band and Maddox Ssematimba are set for a battle in the highly anticipated show dubbed ‘Tuula Ku Mukeeka’ The once in a lifetime show will take place at the Uganda Museum and is expected to be a special and unique show as revelers will turn up with their mats on which they will seat while enjoying the classic music like it was done back in the old days.

According to the show organizers, the singers are all ready and have promised to give their fans an outstanding performance.
Gates will open at midday until late and tickets go for UGX 50,000.
