Artist of the day: Chess aka The Queen
27 February 2014
The queen aka Chess as she is popularly known is probably one of the fastest rising music stars in the country possesing a set of powerful vocals and valiant spirit i can say for sure that she is set to take over the music scene soon.
This talented songstress started doing music at a very tender age and it was after she joined high school at Precious Blood Riruta that she realized music was her calling,
"Back in high school music was an Integral part of the learning curriculum and with time i just go to embrace it and fall in love with it and i have never looked back since then"
In 2009, she was lucky to receive a scholarship to go and study music at Brookhouse for two years and that is where she sharpened her skills and talent even more.
Between 2010 and 2012, she has worked with ' The Altimate' and 'Juma Tutu' bands also managing to secure a contract to work with Safaricom Live season one as a backup vocalist for Kenya's top artists Nameless and Jua Cali.
Her big break however came in 2012 when Rabbit approached her after a performance and asked whether they could do a song together, and as a result of this collaboration the song “Successful” was born and Chess marked her entry into mainstream music scene .
Since then, she has worked with several musicians in the country including Khaligraph and Prezzo and is set to release her debut single this year
"Im working on releasing my debut video titled “Am in love” soon and hopefully my first album too will be concluded before the year comes to an end
