27 February 2014
From the first time they hit the entertainment scene, there was no denying that Sarabi band were here to set a new pace and establish themselves as unique and be the voice of the people.
It comes as no surprise that they have been nominated in this year’s Honesty Oscar Awards for their collaboration "Sheria” featuring Juliani.
The song which talks about the state of the country’s politics and corruption calling on the common 'mwananchi' to take action while respecting the rule of law which is where the song title comes in “Sheria”.
Honest Oscars is a ONE campaign organized award ceremony that honors not Hollywood films but songs and videos that help fight global corruption through their messages.
The song has been nominated in the Best Activist Anthem category where it will battle it out against Liberia's "Pot Boiling Remix" by Xpolay featuring Romeo Lee, JD Donzo, Luckay Buckay, Takun J, and Bentman tha Don; "El soor" by Egypt's Youssra El Hawary and "Down by the riverside" by Dr and Da Green Soljas from Cameroon.
Winners are decided by the number of votes the musicians get and will be presented with the awards on the night of the Oscars on 2, March.
This is a good sign for Kenyan music as it is an indication that Kenyan music is slowly but steadily squeezing into the international audience.
This nomination comes just a week after another local musician Wyre was nominated in the Best male artist category at the World Music Awards.
