Artist of the day: Eko Dydda

Kenyan Hip hop/Crunk gospel artist Eko Dydda known for his unique style of rapping, stammering, started his career path into the music scene back in 2007 as an underground artist.

Born in a family of 4 (3 brothers and one sister), his parents introduced them to Christianity at a young age and in class four, he made a conscious decision to follow the lifestyle his parents had accustomed him to by proclaiming salvation.

He was introduced to the larger music scene by a friend from the Rachel gospel group, who connected him to the Mad Love concerts that allowed him to show case his music talent and skill. Through doing this, he was able to interact with rapper Holy Dave who collaborated with him in his famous debut song “Niko Na Reason” in 2009.

The song went on to perform exceedingly well in the music charts, gaining him recognition in the 2010 Chaguo La Teeniz awards as the best upcoming new artist and hottest Hip hop song of the year

He has since then released several other hit songs such as, 'Me and My House', 'Apple' and 'Focus on Jesus Till I Die', and is currently riding high with his latest new singles 'Bless My Family' and 'J.E.S.U.S'

Apart from music, his other interests include Poetry, song writing and football; at his younger ages he was a dedicated football player however his chances of prospering in the given career choice were barred when coaches refused to take him up as a player due to his small body size.

However his love for the game still remains and he founded the Ghetto championship soccer tournament to bring together youths from different slums to tap into their talents and keep them engaged.
