Lucky G kenya is an upcoming AFROPOP artiste from Mombasa but lives in kisii. On 5/6/2016,he expressed his hard feeling on the royalties distribution made. He posted this on his timeline as quoted "It's saddening and unencouraging for artists from The country striving hard to make songs but get a portion equal to zero of what they make.
Artist in the country spend Colo sum of money in producing good audios and high quality videos,but there efforts bare no fruits. They pay a reg fee of ksh.3500 to the MUSIC COPYRIGHT ORGINIZATION OF KENYA popularly called MCSK with the aim of maximum monitorization of their music in varrious platforms like the mass media,youtube,skiza tunes and any other download websites eg tubidy,soundcloud,itunes etc. Bt the shocking truth is that the largest percentage goes to the stake holders of MCSK. Artist get less than 10% of their work. They have many excuses to tell artist like frozen accounts in whch its just a hide way,so that they can squander their money. Others are never given anything so far or they do miscalculation and get paid a less amount. When shall Kenyan Music industry change??????Mdundo is also another parasite to the kenyan artists. They promice 85%-90% of the loyalties to be given to the artist but only 1% is given out. PLEASE MUACHE KUTUBEBA UFALA,HII PESA SI YA MAMAZENU!!”
