Artist of the day: P-Unit

Kenya’s Hip hop group P-unit, currently riding high with their single L.O.V.E, has come a long way to where they are right now.

The group consisting of Gabu, Frasha and Bone-eye is without doubt one of the greatest entertainers to ever emerge from the East African region.

P-unit, Pro-Habo Unit, was founded by Nonini aka the godfather of Genge and their first single as a group “Si Lazima” proved to be the entry point of the three talented artists into the music scene.

Immediately after they part ways with group member Nonini, the group hit the road running and their hard work finally paid off when the group was nominated and went ahead to win at the 2007 Kisima Music Awards as the Boomba group of the year.

Their witty style of rapping has made the group a household name since their break through several years ago.

The crew continued with their exploits and in 2010, they released their 17 track debut album “Wagenge Hao” that featured some of their hit songs like Kare, Hapa kule, Una, Juu tu sana and Kushoto kulia.

In Late 2011, the group collaborated with Sauti Sol and released one of their greatest tracks 'Gentleman' that received massive airplay across the region up to date.

In 2013, the group broke the Channel O curse and became the only Kenyan group to win two Awards at the 2013 Channel O Music Video Awards courtesy of their hit “You Guy”

One of the most unknown secrets of the group is that one of the members Frasha is a qualified physiotherapist who and used to work at the Aga Khan hospital until 2011 to concentrate on music, he and Bon-eye were also childhood friends long before their venture into music.

P-Unit continues to out shine their success with each passing day and it’s only a matter of time before the talented “Wagenge’ conquer Africa
