UGANDA: Trailer For 'Queen Of Katwe' Walt Disney Production Shines Light On Ghetto Katwe

This year Many Ugandans will feel the pride and joy of being put in the spotlight after Walt disney studios released the trailer of one of their smash hits, Queen Of Katwe' which is based on a true story and is about Uganda chess Protege Phiona Mutesi, a teenager from the poorest slums of Uganda, who after being inspired by an unlikely mentor, a war refugee turned missionary, has become an international chess champion.

Apart from featuring the familiar faces of Golden Globe nominee David Oyelowo and Oscar winner Lupita Nyong’o, the disney movie trailer is filled with expressive first-timers including Madina Nalwanga, who plays Phiona Mutesi in the movie.
The movie trailer first opens up with a quote from Liberian president and Nobel Peace Prize winner Ellen Johnson Sirleaf on a clear black background:
“The size of your dreams must always exceed your current capacity to achieve them.”
Lupita Nyong’o plays Harriet Mutesi, mother of a young Ugandan chess prodigy Phiona Mutesi. David Oyelowo plays Robert Katende, a missionary who teaches local children how to play chess. After Phiona’s potential skyrockets, robert Katende takes her in and mentors her to become a chess Grand Master, overcoming her impoverished and poor background.
“Sometimes the place you are used to is not the place you belong. You belong where you believe you belong,”
says Katende to a young Phiona Mutesi.
