KENYA: ‘WHO IS QUEEN?’ The Top 10 Femcees in Kenya Right Now (PART 2) #WomenInMusicAfrica
7 March 2016

- Femi One
The fast rising Kaka Empire leading lady has made her name with jams like Brikicho, Wanjiku Kimani and especially in the remix of King Kaka’s Ligi Soo.

Femi One is what many femcees of the past and some of today are not, though she maintains Swahili/Sheng rap she’s adopted more modern sounds as seen in jams like Brikicho.
However her one weakness to me is her delivery but what she lacks in delivery she makes up for in wordplay and quotable lyrics.
She can easily switch from a hard core rap when she’s dissing her haters to a much more conscious rap about her struggles in the past and one can definitely feel that she has more growing to do in the industry, but when she does come of age y’all better watch out.
- Fena Gitu

And then we have Miss Fena Gitu, she’s what any upcoming rapper (female or otherwise) would like to be.
She wholly adopted the modern almost westernized way of Hiphop in all her songs and perhaps that is why they are mostly all hit songs.
Fena is an all rounded femcee gifted in both her way of delivery which is both simple and sophisticated and her word play as well. You almost feel as if there’s nothing more you could ask of her.
- Xtatic

When she first came out, she came out hard in her jam Hit Em Up featuring AKA and Priddy Ugly, plus she was signed to Sony Music Africa so you already know she was a big deal.
As a femcee, she has it all from the world play to the delivery she is pretty well rounded and the real definition of a new age Hiphop artist.
She could easily have been the best, however she fell off over time and fell behind her counterparts as well.
- Wangechi

She’s young, beautiful and very talented, but could she be the best? Out of all young talents in the industry Wangechi is one of the most renowned names.
She first came out with a fresh and modern sound that drew many to her but it was her ability to write meaningful music and deliver flawlessly on the mic that kept people coming.
- Petra

She calls herself the “Baddest B!tch” and she’s very well deserved of that title when she gets on the mic. Her way with words and the way she delivers makes her one of the best Hiphop artists in Kenya out there and I feel that all she needs to climb the ladder even higher is more music.
- Stella Mwangi

From Norway to Nairobi, Stella Mwangi a.k.a STL has sold out stages and few artists in the country have earned as much bragging rights as she has. And the only one more deserved of the title than she is, is out top pick…
- Muthoni Drummer Queen

Need I say more? In retrospect theirs is no one more deserved of the title Rap Queen than she is. Not only does she manage to stay ahead of the game time and again thanks to constantly putting out tracks, she delivers each and every time that she does, you can really never get tired of listenin to an MDQ track time and again.
