UGANDA: Iryn Namubiru's "Nkuweeki" turns 10

Iryn Namubiru’s breakout song turns 10 this year and word on the street is that she’s planning a major do at a swanky venue to commemorate the anniversary. Iryn hit the Ugandan music scene as a solo artiste in 2006 with the Afro R&B hit Nkuweeki penned by master songsmith Sylver Kyagulanyi and recorded by ace producer Steve Jean. Prior to her homecoming at the time, Iryn was the other half of the ethno-pop Nujeli duo based in France. Its “Ensi” album earned her a Kora nod for the music video to the single “Ansobela”, about a man that is hesitant to fulfill his conjugal duties. Before that, Iryn was part of the I-Jay duo comprising Ugandan pop princess Juliana Kanyomozi. Their 2000 debut “Wait” album wait spawned the anti-war anthem of the time Vive La Vie. Iryn has since become one of the most bankable commercial acts on the Ugandan music scene today boasting a sonorous voice and an exhibitionist personality making her the quintessential package artiste. Look out for her music soon on www.mdundo.com.
