UGANDA: Call for Artists LABA! Arts Festival 2016

For the 10^th Anniversary of LaBa! Arts Festival  happening Sat 11^th June 2016, artists and musicians of all disciplines/genres are invited to submit their applications as individuals or collectives with a project, artwork or performance. The 10^th Anniversary of the festival will take place on Saturday 11^th June 2016 at Bukoto Street, Kamwokya.

What LaBa! is:

We are the oldest art festival in Uganda and a milestone in the cultural scene of Kampala. A platform for creative interventions into public spaces by appreciating and working with spaces, which inspire new forms and ways of making “art”.

What LaBa! wants:

To showcase artistic and musical expressions outside the usual spaces and conditions to reach out to new audiences.  To  encourage artistic encounters, intellectual and playful dialogues between artists and their audiences and explores visual techniques and methods of both aesthetics and communication.

The 10^th Anniversary

It is a celebration. In 2016 we will have an ‘Open Theme’ to purely focus on Artistic Creation and Freedom of Expression, but also to recognize the individual approaches and see the diversity of themes and perspectives that are expressed in the arts in Uganda.

How to apply?

Fill out the form on the back and hand in all documents required. We will be glad if the proposal is related to the space (Bukoto Street) and the the aim of the festival – ‘Art is for Everyone!’.

• Drawings, Videos or other material if needed
• A tentative budget including all costs to be expected (full funding is not guaranteed)

Documents handed in as a soft copy (via e-mail) should be sent in common formats (pdf, jpg, mp3, mpeg, mp4). Hard copies should be handed in at the reception of GZK/ UGCS, Plot 52 Bukoto Street, Kamwokya, Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.

Deadline for Submission is 31^st March 2016.  The selected participant will be informed by 15^th April.
