KENYA: 'We Understand the Controversies But He's Our Little Brother', Sauti Sol Justify Collaborating With Controversial Willy Paul

It was an issue that had many Sauti Sol fans irked. When Sauti Sol posted on social media about whether they should do a collaboration with controversial Gospel artist Willy Paul, many of their fans said simply, no.

But the beloved boy band went on ahead and did it, disregarding their fans. However now the band members have finally broken the silence as to why they went on and did the collaboration despite warnings from their fans.

Speaking to Mpasho, two of the band members, Polycarp a.k.a Fancy Fingers and Chimano said, “It’s been a long time coming. We’ve been friends with Willy Paul for the longest time.”

As to where they became friends with the young singer, group member Polycarp Otieno revealed that he was the one that auditioned Willy Paul during the Sauti Academy started by the band before the ‘Tam Tam’ singer’s career took off.

“This year we’re doing collabos with many Kenyan artists and Willy Paul is one of them,” he said.

Chimano also revealed that they’d actually already worked with Willy Paul 2 years ago, however that project did not make it out the studio.

He then went on to justify why they are working with him once again despite his reputation, “We understand the controversies but at the end of the day he is our little brother and his controversies do not affect us in any way. He’ll sort himself out.”

“He’s very talented as well and if there’s backlash with the collabo, we’ll get more views. People are looking forward to it,” Polycarp added.

It was also revealed that the song is already complete and is awaiting its release but the question remains will the song be good enough to impress their fans who were against it all along?

“We finished the song the other day…I actually really like it…I think you guys will really like it but maybe I’m overstepping,” Chimano concluded.

Now we wait patiently and as the band members promise perhaps we will be impressed and the critics will be silenced.
