KENYA: 'Helena' by Third Hand Music, Could This Be the Coming of the Next Sauti Sol?

Third Hand Music is not a widely known name in most circles but unforgettable to those who’ve watched them perform on stage.

They are pretty new though they made their debut last year with their song ‘Helena’ exclusively on Mdundo.

Yesterday (around midnight) they released the official video for ‘Helena’, an amazing video I have to say produced by Young Wallace.

Why the name ‘Third Hand Music’ though? We spoke to two of the band members earlier today who explained the peculiar (but creative I have to say) choice of name.

“We chose it because it can spark conversations. It’s a name that is very open to one’s interpretation, but in reality the ‘Third Hand’ stands for God. We knew we weren’t going to do much in terms of Gospel music but we still wanted to remember where we came from,” he said.

There’s a huge difference in time between the release of the song and the official video but as the Band members revealed they took time to make their name first before launching their music careers officially.

Personally ‘Helena’ is reminiscent of Sauti Sol’s first hit song ‘Lazizi’, they both tell the story of love. The video is also heart-stopping and emotional and also managed to bring out the story very well. Big up Young Wallace for that last shot.

And for their first time Third Hand Music are doing well for themselves and sparking conversations about the song. So far everybody seems to agree it’s an amazing song and that the band have the potential to go even further.

Check it out and judge for yourself.
