Africa's top music video directors!
22 January 2014
It has been a long journey for the music videos in Kenya and Africa as a whole from way back when the quality and production levels were poor to the top notch HD quality produced currently.
Nowadays fans look forward to music videos almost as much they look forward to musician’s new songs and after years of growth in the music industry, it’s certain that music video production is now a thriving and lucrative industry on its own.
A while back Channel O released a list of its most visionary African music video directors comprised of six Nigerians, 2 south Africans, 1 Kenyan and a Ghanaian, below is the list;
10. J. Hill (Ghana)
9. Mark Hofmeyer (South Africa)
8. AJE (Nigeria)
7. Justine Campos (South Africa)
6. The Godfather (Nigeria)
5. IGHO Tosin (Nigeria)
4. Patrick Ellis (Nigeria)
3. Andrew Macharia (Kenya)
2. Clarence Peters (Nigeria)
1. Sesan (Nigeria)
The list takes into account the flowing criteria: originality, body of work, views/comments, and awards.
In the past year we’ve seen some of our Kenyan musicians like P-Unit head to South Africa to shoot their videos while others seek the services of Clarence Peters from Nigeria. This tells us that we need to improve in order to reach the international standards.
