OPINION: Celebrities and publicity stunts

When you become a celebrity any publicity is good publicity but to what extent can you go or rather just how far you can push the buttons of publicity.

When it comes to the Kenyan music industry our celebrities are working in a market where they are fighting to have their music selling, which of course has changed over the years with the placement of some stringent piracy laws and structures, but it still doesn’t mean it can be prevented and that’s where platforms such as Mdundo come in by providing a platform to sell their music legally and earn from the downloads they get.

Based on the fact that they have to find a way of staying relevant and staying on fans minds they always seem to have something up their sleeves to keep fans talking and luckily for them the entertainment industry is currently booming with several websites and bloggers feeding the fans thirst and airing their ‘dirty linen’ in public.

Definitely publicity is very useful for artists since it keeps people talking but also there is a thin line between any publicity and good publicity. One should just be careful when not to cross it.
