Grandpa Records signed Caribbean artist receives award

Earlier on last year when Sakata judge Joanne Ball Burgess, better known as JO-1, made her debut into the music scene with her single ‘Chiziqa’ featuring coast artist Fishaman, it was uncertain to predict how the song would be received by fans but it seems to have been received extremely well back in her home town as she managed to scoop the crossover artist of the year, 2013, in Bermuda.

Her single ‘Chiziqa’ is currently the top song in Bermuda and most parts of the Caribbean, and as grandpa records CEO Refigah expressed it is a defining moment for grandpa records “we are very proud of JO-1 and seeing that she is spreading her wings back in her country ,the song is receiving massive airplay there and has opened doors for grandpa records music since some of our music is also being played a lot back there.”

JO-1 who is an experienced dancer, songwriter and children’s book author was born and raised in Bermuda only relocating to Kenya two years ago where she managed to land her judging job on Sakata.

Her experience working and living in Kenya drew her inspiration to release her first single.
