Throwback Thurs: 90's and 00's hit makers!!

Few weeks ago on our Thursday throwback we featured some of the Kenyan musical groups that rocked our airwaves in the 90’s and early 2000’s but along the way they parted to focus on solo careers as others completely made an exit from the music scene.

Here is part 2 of the story with more groups:

#1 Kalamashaka – Also known as K-Shaka the Hip-Hop group was formed in the mid 90’s and was based in Dandora, it comprised of Oteraw, Kama and Johny.
They became popular with the hit song ‘Tafsiri Hii’ and later released ‘Fanya Mambo’ which was a massive hit.

#2 Gidi Gidi Maji Maji – The duo came into the lime light in early 2000’s with their debut album ‘Ismarwa’. They released ‘Unbwogable’ which was a big hit and adopted by Mwai Kibaki during his 2002 elections. In an interview Gidi Gidi said that the group is having a break since they are both working on different projects.

#3 Wakamba Wawili – comprising of two rappers Agano and Labalaa , they release one album called ‘TumeSurvive Kila Kitu’ but later split up due to personal differences.

#4 The Bugz – This were the hit makers of the songs ‘Wezere, Kamoja Tu and ‘Naskia Utamu and comprised of VBO and Bobby Mapesa, they however parted ways.

#5 East African Bashment Crew – the group was formed in 2005 and comprised of Nazizi, Wyre and Bebe Cool from Uganda. The Award winning group has been away for a while but the members are still relevant in the current music scene.
