Mejja Hosts a Captain’s Hangout Blending Music, Flavour, and Festive Kenyan Vibes
13 January 2026

I walked into Holiday Inn Nairobi Two Rivers this weekend expecting a brand event, but what I got felt more like a carefully curated playlist—every moment hitting a different note, all tied together by rhythm, flavour, and Kenyan festive energy.
From the moment Captain Morgan and Holiday Inn Nairobi Two Rivers set the tone, it was clear this Captain’s Hangout wasn’t just about rum or food—it was about vibe, timing, and how culture moves when the right people are in the room.
Media friends, creators, influencers, and true Captain Morgan fans filled the space, and the energy already felt like a soundcheck before a live show.
At the center of it all was Mejja—award-winning artist, cultural icon, and Captain Morgan ambassador—who didn’t just host the event, but conducted it.
Like a seasoned performer reading a crowd, he kept the tempo high, weaving humor, spontaneous music moments, and pure Kenyan flavor into the afternoon.
Every interaction felt unscripted, like a freestyle that just works.
The experience opened with a rum masterclass, but even that felt musical in structure—layers, depth, and progression.
We explored the heritage and flavour profiles of Captain Morgan Gold and the bold new Captain Morgan Muckpit, each sip landing like a bassline or a sharp hook.
Gold felt smooth and familiar, while Muckpit came in heavy and unapologetic—raw, experimental, and perfect for a crowd that appreciates bold sounds.
Then came the culinary drop.
Holiday Inn’s Chef Robert Aluda stepped in like a producer with a vision, crafting a rum-infused menu that paired seamlessly with the drinks.
Spicy mutura, braised beef mains, and Muckpit-inspired bites played off each other like verses and choruses, proving that Kenyan cuisine—much like Kenyan music—thrives when it’s allowed to experiment without losing its roots.
Between bites and beats, the afternoon flowed into gingerbread-making, games, competitions, and moments where music took over naturally—no announcement needed.
Someone would laugh, Mejja would break into song, the room would respond, and suddenly the whole space felt alive, like a live session instead of a hotel venue.
What stood out most to me was how intentional everything felt.
You could tell Holiday Inn Nairobi Two Rivers wasn’t just hosting—they were curating an atmosphere where creativity could breathe.
And Captain Morgan didn’t just sponsor the moment—they amplified it, letting self-expression and fun lead the way.
As Pooja Patel, General Manager of Holiday Inn Nairobi Two Rivers, put it, the goal was to create a space where creativity, culture, and hospitality meet—and from where I stood, that vision played out perfectly.
Victor Adada, Brand Manager for Captain Morgan, echoed the same rhythm: fun, flavour, and self-expression, brought to life in a way that felt authentic and unmistakably Kenyan.
By the time the afternoon wound down, it felt less like the end of an event and more like the final track on a really good album—the kind you replay in your head long after it’s done.
This wasn’t just a hangout.
It was a cultural jam session—where rum, food, music, and people came together and reminded me that when the vibe is right, everything else falls perfectly into rhythm.
