Throwback Thursday: Do you remember these 90’s & early 00’s music groups?

Musical groups have been around for a while in the Kenyan music scene but only a few of them are able to stand the test of time when faced with challenges.

In the last decade we’ve seen music groups come and go, ultimately, for a variety of reasons.

In our throwback feature today we look at some of the musical groups that rocked the industry but due to some reasons they had to split up along the way.

#1 Deux Vultures – consisted of two members Colonel Mustapha & Nasty Thomas. Their debut single ‘Mona Lisa’ become an instant national hit. In 2004 they released their album ‘Katika’ and went ahead to release hit songs such as Kinyaunyau & Adhiambo C.

#2 K-South – a Hip-hop duo made up of Bamboo & Abbas formed in 1995. The first album ‘Nairoberry’ was released in 2002 which had a couple of hits. The duo split up when Bamboo left after getting saved.

#3 Sema – the winners of Cocacola popstar season 1 in 2004 comprised of Sana, Kevin & Pam. Their first single Leta Wimbo was a massive hit starting off their career in the right footing. With no clear reason sadly the group parted ways in 2005.

#4 Necessary Noize - It was originally composed Nazizi, Wyre and rapper Bamzigi. It was formed in 2000 but later Bamzigi left due to personal disputes.

#5 Tatu – the girl group rocked the Kenyan music charts in the mid 2000s with hits such as Teso, Napepea and Parapanda.

#6 Shavey & Slice – the best Kenyan dancehall duo ever formed in 2006 and released their debut single ‘Gyal’ which is still a club banger till date. After few tracks the group disappeared.

#7 Kleptomaniax – consisted of three members Collo, Robba & Nyashinski who came together in 1999 when they were still high school students. In 2004 they released ‘Tuendelee’ which became their biggest hit. They took a break in 2007 but we’ve not had from them since then.
