“The word BINGWA is a Swahili word meaning CHAMPION. We want to create a winning spirit in everyone that is involved with the Bingwa Music Awards. The core differentiator of Bingwa Music Awards to other long standing music awards that have come and gone is transparency; we have ensured that the voting process is open and visible to everyone, and this will be monitored and verified by Deloitte Kenya,” said Sam Osewe, CEO, Bingwa Music Awards. Bingwa Music Awards is looking to consistently deliver an annual world class red-carpet event, partnering with key stakeholders in the industry such as Red bull and Grants Signature Whisky to ensure every facet of the entertainment industry gets deserved recognition, significantly raising the bar, creating world class standards.
“We’re introducing several new categories including album of the year and one with a ‘different’ twist – a lifestyle award category covering fashion designers. We’re introducing this category because music is a culture; fashion and identity is a big part of this culture. We want to create a platform where East African Artistes and East African fashion designers can collaborate and put out a signature Eastern African identity in both look and sound,” explained Sam at the 2nd Bingwa Music Awards launch on 1st September at Seven Grill & Lounge, Village Market. This year there will be 35 categories up from 29 last year.
