"Today I want to urge Ugandans and East Africans as a whole that I don't want to achieve any awards for mercy reasons but my music to stand for me. As a musician, I have done my duty to do music that can get us into the MTV level of competition, and at this level, the rest depends on my country to achieve that award."
The above are the words of Ugandan music pioneer and multi award winner, Bebe Cool in regard to Eddy Kenzo's success in the previously held BET Awards, where he won the 'BET Viewer Internationa Choice Award'. Bebe Cool went ahead t imply that Eddy Kenzo's achievement was a 'mercy' card.

He concludes:

Eddy Kenzo is not the first Ugandan to be nominated in the BET awards, but he is the first Ugandan to win a BET award, and also the first African to win the BET Viewer's International choice award (Africa), because, that particular category was only introduced in the just concluded awards.
