Ugandan artist Jackie Chandiru has made a bold decision to change her maiden name ‘Chandiru’ in a move geared towards reinventing herself musically.

The Blu*3 group singer says that some of her mishaps in life are associated with name which means ‘problems’ in her native Lugbara/Mulugwala tribe.

She will adopt a new name ‘Jackie Ayikoru’ which means happiness because that’s all she is after in her new chapter in life.

“At this point, I myself am a problem...that is literally what my name means. And that is why I want to legally change it to “Ayikoru” which means happiness,” she said during an interview with Shamim Mayanja recently.

The Ugandan songstress recounted that relationships largely disoriented her life and changing her name is part of the redemption she is looking for in life.

Before the thought of changing her name, she painted a dark picture of her struggles as an artist and a gifted one at that simply because of her name.

Between 2004 and 2008, Blu*3 thoroughly rocked East Africa but Jackie opened up that she always had trouble receiving the same level of affection from some followers as Cindy Sanyu and Lilian Mbabazi, who made up the Blu*3 trio.

She asserted that her disadvantage in her music career has always stemmed from the fact that she is a Lugbara and the name Chandiru only made it worse.

Jackie said that despite being a talented artist, she always fought with the profiling she went through and it took a mental toll on her when the group split in 2008.
