The latest release from Kikuyu gospel musician Phyllis Mbuthia and fellow gospel star Guardian Angel, "Nipungue Mimi," is a perfect blend of musical genres and tongues.
This soul-stirring song speaks volumes about humility and surrender above everything else the world has to offer.
This partnership is unique because of the smooth transition between the two artists who command a huge following in the gospel circles.
Phyllis Mbuthia who mainly sings in Kikuyu hits a switch for change in ‘Nipungue Mimi’ where she sings in Swahili poetically.
When combined with Guardian Angel’s superb delivery they produce a perfect song with a strong-worded message to all believers.
"Nipungue Mimi" translates to *"Reduce Me" in English. The song's lyrics delve into the depths of the artists' hearts, expressing a heartfelt prayer to God. They humbly ask to be humbled so that God's glory may be magnified in every circumstance.
It's a plea for divine intervention, a recognition of human frailty, and a surrender to the God’s wonders.
In the Teddy B produced song, Phyllis affectionately brings her rich vocal appeal and emotive delivery in the song. Her soulful rendition infuses the track with authenticity and vulnerability. Meanwhile, Guardian Angel's angelic voice weaves through the song evoking both respect and hope.
“Nipungue mimi, nipungue sana naye yesu aongezeke…zaidi na Zaidi yesu aongezeke, Zaidi na Zaidi yesu atukumbuke, nipugue mimi, nipungue sana naye yesu aongezeke,” the chorus goes.
