Islam is a faith with a rich history , and traditions and its followers around the world observe a number of important religious festivals throughout the year. These holidays have unique customs and rituals . Together these holidays form the cornerstone of Islamic religious life ,celebrating sacrifice , charity and spiritual devotion . With this in mind lets delve into each of the Islamic calendar , and comprehend their importance to the Muslim community.

Eid al Fitr.

Eid al Fitr  also known as the ‘Festival of Breaking the Fast’ is one of the most anticipated holidays in Islam. The holiday marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan. This is marked by celebration and an array of festivities.

Eid al Fitr is a time to gather with family and friends , share food and gifts , and offer gratitude to Allah. The day symbolizes the strength of the Muslim community and the importance of faith and self discipline .In addition , it's seen as a time of forgiveness and new beginnings . On this day Muslims are encouraged to seek forgiveness from Allah and each other . They are also encouraged to give charity to those in need. Many Muslims also take time to reflect on the spiritual growth they’ve experienced during Ramadan.

What really happens during this day ?

The most significant event happening during this day is the ‘Eid’ prayer. It's usually held in a large open space like a field , and it's attended by thousands of people. The prayer is led by Imam, and it includes several parts , including a sermon , a reading from the Quran and a prayer for forgiveness. Most muslims consider  this prayer as the most important part of Eid Al Fitr.

The holiday is a joyous occasion that brings people together and spreads happiness and hope. As we near the end of Ramadan , we would like to wish our Muslim brothers and sisters Eid Mubarak!

Eid Al Adha.

The festival is also known as the ‘Festival of Sacrifice’ The holiday is commemorated in remembrance of the willingness of Abraham to sacrifice his son Ishmael as an act of obedience to God.On Eid Al Adha , Muslims usually sacrifice an animal, a goat or sheep, and distribute the meat to the poor and needy. They also pray , visit  friends and family , and enjoy special meals .

Standout Event Happening during Eid Al Adha.

We have often come across the name ‘ Mecca’ in more ways than we can comprehend. Let me educate you a little bit. Mecca for Hajj, is a pilgrimage in the Islamic Culture . Every muslim who is physically and financially able is required to make this pilgrimage at least once in their lifetime . Millions of Muslims across the world take part in the pilgrimage during this period. It is regarded as a time of spiritual renewal and purification. Thus considered as one of the five pillars of Islam.

After the ‘Hajj’ muslims partake in the festivities, where they attend communal prayers , give money to charity , and share food with friends and neighbors . These acts of sacrifice are a reminder of God’s  mercy and generosity , while sharing of food is a way of bringing the community together .

While Eid Al Adha , is a joyous occasion, it's also a time to remember those who are less fortunate and to help those in need. In a way the holiday serves as a reminder of the significance of compassion and generosity.

Id el Maulid

The holiday is also referred to as ‘ Mawlid’ or the Prophet's birthday . The Muslim community converges in honor of the birth of Prophet Muhammad . The day is usually observed on the 12th day of Rabi ‘ al -awwal’ This is regarded as the third month in the Islamic calendar . This occasion happens during the month of September , although the date of celebration varies in different countries .

During the period , people gather to recite poems , and educate one another on stories about Prophet Muhammed . There is inclusion of special prayers that align to the occasion.

In most Islamic based countries like Egypt and Morocco the festivities last for several concurrent days . Other countries celebrate the holiday , in their own unique way . Let's take a look into a few of them. In Turkey ,people visit mosques and read the Quran. While in Malaysia , families prepare special food and visit the graves of deceased loved ones . In Pakistan, people often visit the shrines of the saints . In non Muslim based countries the day is celebrated more privately within the Muslim community.

No matter how the holiday is celebrated , the day remains an important part of the Islamic calendar and is observed by Muslims all over the world.
