The holiday is also referred to as Labour Day . It is memorialized on the 1st of May every year. The day is regarded as the anniversary of the Haymarket affair , a historic event in the labor movement .

As much as the holiday was coined in the United States , countries around the world have assimilated the holiday , celebrating it , in their own unique way .
