Children are the next generation of leaders , sportsmen and women ,doctors and all sectors of life .They are our bundles of joy , our innocent beings , the joy that keeps on giving , and our cherished ‘possession .’ They are a reminder of what was good in the world , before adulting slapped us on the face with the reality of life.
The Origin of Children’s Day.
The idea for a day to celebrate children originated in the early 1900s , when reformers began to advocate for better conditions for children around the world. In 1924 , the World Conference for the well-being of Children was proposed as an international holiday to promote the welfare of children .Eventually in 1954 , the United Nations officially recognized Children’s Day , designated it as November 20th. This date was chosen to commemorate the adoption of the Declaration of the Rights of the Child .Today over 60 countries celebrate Children’s Day on this date .
The Intention behind Children’s Day.
Children’s Day was created with the intention of promoting awareness on the importance of children’s rights and well-being .In the Universal Declaration , there are guidelines that stipulate the rights of the children . They include ,right to health, education , play , protection from harm.
The goal of the holiday is to draw attention to the plight of children around the world who are not afforded the basic rights . Moreover, it's a day to celebrate the progress that has been made in protecting children’ s rights and to continue working towards a world where every child has a safe , healthy and a happy childhood.
Many countries use the opportunity to promote peace as the young ones are the most vulnerable to the effects of war and violence .The day is also used to promote the ideology of equality. As all children are equal regardless of gender , race , or socio-economic status .
The day is mostly spent with children ,playing with them , connecting with them on different levels , while gifting them with different types of gifts .
Children’s Day is a holiday to remind us of the importance of children in our lives . As we commit to making the world a better place for them , both now and in the future.
