Father ‘s day is a holiday that celebrates and honors father’s , fatherhood and father figures in our lives . It's an occasion set aside to value their meaningful impact to society and recognize the importance of strong father -child relationships . Whether deceased , active , or partially active father figures , are honored during this day. The holiday is celebrated on the third Sunday in June in the majority of the countries .
Families around the world gather to appreciate the father figure by gifting them with gifts , cards and other significant activities . How did this holiday come to be ? Let's find out .
Origin of Father’s Day.
During the early 20th century , A woman named ‘ Sonora Smart Dodd’ came up with the idea of Father’s day after hearing of Mother’s Day . She felt the need to recognise and honor her father , who was a widower at the time , and was raising five kids by himself .She campaigned for the first Father’s Day celebration which was held in 1910. Since then , Father’s Day has been in the books as a key holiday around the world.
Different countries celebrate the occasion in their unique way. South Africans honor the day on the first Sunday of September and is usually referred to as ‘ Heritage Day’.Australia , hold their celebration ,on the first day of September and is known as ‘ Father and Child Day’
The United Kingdom has an interesting celebration known as ‘ Mothering Sunday’. The occasion is a complement to just one occasion. The country as a whole combines both fathers and mothers , thus celebrating both in a single day. This happens on the fourth Sunday of every lent period .
Fathers are a significant pillar in families , thus celebrating their contribution in molding , guiding and leading the small institution is key. Traditions of upholding the holiday may vary , depending on so many facts , but what stands out is the love and respect for our dads .
