The New Year we all know of is also referred to as ‘ Old Year’s Night ‘. It is celebrated on the last day of the year ; 31st of December . It's a time for people to bid farewell to the year as they await the dawn of a new , hopeful year to come .Being a public holiday ,most people engage themselves in various activities  including parties , New Year’s midnight mass.

Cities across the world mark the onset of a new year with spectacular presentations of fireworks in their capitals . Thousands of people gather around these places to watch these spectacular shows . The most popular  ones include , ‘ The Famous ball drop ‘ in Times Square , New York . Sydney Opera House  display , in Sydney Australia . The London Eye display in London , United Kingdom. We aint to forget , ‘The Burj Khalifa ‘ display in the U.A.E.   The timeline of these presentations vary depending on the time zones of the said

New Year’s Day : A Time to Reflect and Look Forward .

New Year’s Day is a global celebration  that marks the beginning of a new calendar year  .While the traditions vary from country to country , the central theme is one of hope and renewal .

 

 The day is mostly a time of relaxation , and rest . Even Though the majority  are inclined to attend church services , hold parties with family and friends.New Year’s Day is a day of reflection of how the past year had been , while making resolutions of the year ahead .

In some countries , it is a special day filled with an array of activities.For example , Scotland , it is marked by a three day celebration known as ‘ Hogmanay’. That involves parties , fireworks and other festivities.  On the other hand , Spain uses the opportunity to eat 12 grapes at midnight , as a sign of attracting  blessings .

 

The New Year celebration varies depending on the calendar ,countries abide by. Countries like Japan , China , and Korea celebrate it with the Lunar New Year. It's the  most significant holiday of the countries as their celebrations are epic , extravagant , and mind blowing . From family reunions , gifts giving , to traditional dances of lion dances and dragon boat racings . Tourists flock to these countries during the period , to witness the diverse portrayal of the cultures .

In Thailand , the New Year is celebrated according to the Buddhist calendar . It's mostly marked with family gatherings , visiting the temples and splashing water on others as a symbol of cleansing and renewal . Other countries with different celebration dates are ; Iran , Afghanistan, Azerbaijan , Tajikistan , India. 

 

The celebration of New year, and that of New Year’s Eve may differ in more ways that we can imagine. What stands out above all , is the fact that we welcome the new year, with hopes ,and resolutions that will get us through . As we enjoy the company of our loved ones.
