REVIEW: World, Meet Dead Poet; The New Face Of Kenyan Hip Hop Music

Hip hop is a genre I personally feel transcends time itself. Here’s why: it encompasses soul, rap, pop and even some elements of jazz; a keen music enthusiast would know. So whenever I hear of a sound human uttering the words ‘hip hop is dead’ I immediately assume they know little of how much Hip hop particles are floating around in the air from the other genres.

And this new music crew will make you fully understand how extant hip hop really is. What’s even better is the irony in their stage name: Dead Poet!

Dead Poet was formed by the merger of six kids from Nairobi Kenya each with individual talent and background, but unified in their vision and the love for music.

The aim was to uplift each other by building on their individual strengths and producing a unique sound and a way to tell their story. The collective comprises four rappers, one singer and a producer.

Now working on their debut mixtape, Dead Poet is keen to move through boundaries and break the 'glass ceiling' on kenyan rappers. Their hunger is evident in their music.

Ever listened to a music piece and, felt like the song resonated exactly with what you’ve been screaming quietly deep inside? Like every element of the song was like a fragment of your soul, your personality? Almost as if the artists had talked to your personal psychologist before the composition of the song?

This is the feeling you’ll get once you give an ear to Dead Poet; they bring an entirely new meaning to the phrase ‘Tailor made’ and you can listen to their new single and download it from mdundo.com http://mdundo.com/a/10310
